An Homage to the Women of Juarez
cast plaster and glass, screenprinted wallpaper and images
room installation
2010
This installation alludes to the young women who have disappeared in Juarez, Mexico by calling to mind the ubiquitous tributes placed by their grieving families in their former homes and in desolate areas on the outskirts of Juarez where their bodies have been frequently been found. The screen-printed wallpaper combines motifs found in the church architecture of that city with the day of the dead flower, the marigold. Glass frames and white plaster flowers evoke a haunting and fleeting sense of disappearence. The selected objects make tangible the lost narratives of departed voices.
